Bevagna

Strategically placed in the centre of Umbria, nearby the main touristic towns (Assisi, Spello, Spoleto, Todi, Montefalco), the ancient village of Bevagna, built on a roman settlement, is still enclosed by the old city walls. It stands out from the wide touristic Umbrian landscape for the abundance of monuments, the quality of artistic and handicraft products, its untouched landscape, its eno-gastronomic traditions, its cultural and leisure dynamism and its life style based on the care of the individual and of the community.

The influence of its historical-cultural traditions, combined with its regional peculiarities, makes Bevagna a unique national and international attraction. For this reason Bevagna was named “Jewel of Italy” and it isenclosed in the national list of the 21 “Italian Jewels” for the best available activities, tourist welcoming and life style.

The high quality of the food and of the products of the land (extra virgin olive oil, Sagrantino DOCG red wine, cereals, vegetables, meat and salami, “porchetta”, honey, saffron, cake and biscuits, fresh pasta, snails, etc. ), combined with the wonderful untouched environmental beauty makes Bevagna an healthy land. This encourages to have nice day trips and sightseeing tours on a wide range of cycle-pedestrian paths (among them there are the Spoleto-Assisi path, and the path in Parco della Scultura di Castelbuono) make Bevagna an healthy land. Moreover the entire district was the first to be called “Orto Urbano”: a wide vegetable garden for the benefits of the visitors.

The large variety of historical-architectonical monuments of the roman age (roman thermal baths adorned with splendid mosaics, the ruins of a roman theatre, a domus and temple and of an ancient port) along with Medieval buildings as the churches around the main square, the fourteen-century palace of the consul and the more recent nineteen-century theatre (a jewel of the belle Ă©poque) and other religious places make Bevagna the perfect destination for visitors who enjoy feeling the history and appreciating splendid views and details.

An old life style characterized by artisan workshops that produce handmade products of high quality according to the old traditions and technologies and put in the spotlight by the “Il Mercato delle Gaite” event.

Umbria

Umbria landscape is characterized by soft and smoothed green hills and by towns and villages rich of history and tradition. In ancient times this region was populated by Umbri and Etruschi civilizations, later it was dominated by the Roman Empire and subsequently it became part of the Papal State.

Umbria is considered the land of equilibrium, where thousands of different facets and souls meet: man and nature, strong spirituality and lay proud.

Each place has its own identity, as a consequence of thousand years of different civilizations: Umbri, Etruschi, Sabini and Romans, up to Middle Age and Renaissance influences that left a large quantity of memories and artistic masterpieces.

Over the years the farming activities conditioned the surrounding environment, reclaiming and turning over the earth and growing olive trees and grapevine that, beyond the production of premium wines and excellent olive oil, are the symbols of this land.
